Market Square, located in the heart of the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood of Old Town Toronto, has long been considered one of the most desirable places to live in the City's downtown. Possessed of a rich tradition of excellence, this two-building, 306-unit condominium is distinguished by a spirit of community that is often lacking in buildings of this size.
Over the years, Market Square has received numerous awards for design, management and maintenance. It has also been featured in several influential publications. In 1985, the year after its completion, Market Square appeared on the cover of The Canadian Architect, with an accompanying article entitled "Essay in Urban Design". A lavishly-illustrated spread in The Toronto Star for Saturday July 2, 2005 lauded its second-floor roof terrace courtyard as an "oasis" in the city and praised its rooftop garden.
Market Square is located on Front Street directly across from the historic St. Lawrence Market, the Gooderham Flatiron building and St. James' Anglican Cathedral. The Yonge-King TTC stop, the King 504 streetcar, the GO terminal and Union Station provide easy access to the public transportation network. As well, two major highways - the Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway/QEW - are just a few blocks away.
Within easy walking distance are such favourite downtown locations as the Air Canada Centre, the Rogers Centre, the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts, the Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts, Roy Thomson Hall, the Toronto Convention Centre, the CN Tower, the new Four Seasons Centre (Ballet-Opera House), several major hotels and the ferry to the Toronto Islands.
A 24/7 Dominion store, a multiplex cinema, the Hot House Café restaurant, a branch of TD Canada Trust, and a shoe repair store are all within Market Square. The Dominion contains a pharmacy and a branch of the Bank of Montreal. Additional ATMs are nearby.
